The Keenan Recruitment Team is constantly evolving learning from both our candidates and Clients to ensure that we can offer bespoke recruitment campaigns that will match the right staff to the right team, whether on a temporary or permanent basis. Recently, Laura-Lee Quigley signed up to attend the NSPCC Learning Programme ‘Safer Recruitment for those in non-education settings’. This was an online course covering 5 modules covering the recruitment journey from preparation to employment and ongoing monitoring.
Module 1:Preparing to recruit
Module 2: Selecting the right people
Module 3: Choosing wisely
Module 4: Checking thoroughly
Module 5: Remaining vigilant
Below is a Q&A about her experience on the course:
Why do this course?
I have been with Keenan Recruitment for four and a half years and had previously completed the REC Level 3 in Recruitment Practice but since signing NSPCC as a Client it was important for me and the Keenan Team to enhance my value based recruitment practice with further training.
What did you learn?
The course went back to basics covering how to work with your client and explain the requirements and commitment to ‘safer recruitment’ by implementing clear policies and processes to ensure open, fair and safe recruitment practices. The course covered how to work collaboratively with other colleagues to develop job descriptions, interview questions, handling compliance checks including disclosures and designing and reviewing induction and ongoing HR policies and procedures.
What surprised you?
The scenario based Panel discussions around disclosures and interview responses were very helpful in applying the theory to real life situations.
What changes will you implement?
We will be reviewing our Interview Questions for the Social Work and Support Work roles to include a deeper dive into Safeguarding. The NSPCC Learning Hub also provided some excellent templates for suggested questions and scoring templates.
Would you recommend this course to others?
Yes this course is suitable for someone new to recruitment that will be recruiting in the Health and Social Care space for roles with children, young people and vulnerable adults or experienced recruiters or HR Professionals that are committed to continuing their professional development.
